Area is a private school, opened in 1986, that offers classes on a regular basis from beginner's to advanced level in a variety of contemporary dance techniques such as 'release', contact improvisation, ballet, technical basis, improvisation and composition.
The program consists of a complete formation which prepares our students for the wide kaleidscope of professional demands. The formation is complemented by theoretical-practical classes approaching the body from a different perspective.
There is a total of 57 classes on a weekly basis. Students can either organise their personalised timetable taking in account their own tecnical needs, or enroll in one of the 'Formation Blocks'.
Area, Space of Dance and Creation is also a center of investigation and creation where through means of workshops our students are stimulated to explore different artistic approaches and work with different creators. These exchanges and interactions are enriching for everyone included.

The workshops are run by guest choreographers who are currenty active in the field or who own their own company.
This aspect also facilitates the possibility of later on participating in professional projects.
The pieces created through our workshops are publically shown in our studios on the last Friday of every month in a regular program called 'Open Fridays'.
As a result, from the beginning of their formation future dancers or choreographers are familiarised with the mise-en-scθne and the confrontation with the audience. We value this as a great asset to a the creation and execution of a piece.
Our teachers are both national and international,with an aknowledged professional background.
Our students are international.
Area has been the home and starting point of many activities which have later on expanded and followed their own course. Groups formed in Area have grown into independant professional companies. Dancers formed by our school are currently working in professional companies.

Two 120m2 studios, transformable in one single space of 240m2
One of the studios is equipped with professional lighting for performances
The works created for the 'Open Fridays' are presented in the opened space of 240m2, using a 120m2 studio as the stage and the rest of the space as seating for the audience.
A room for warming-up and stretching
A seperate space from which one can view clases, have meetings,expositions, video screenings and eat lunch etc
